Recently, we completed some yard work. It was mostly mulching and pruning. I pruned quite a bit of old growth from our roses, and I was amazed to see new growth only two days later. I couldn't believe how quickly the new leaves started to come through. It was as if the dead branches were stifling and holding the plant back from growing and flourishing.
As I reflected on this change, I realized I've experienced this in my own life. In the past, I've been striving towards a goal, but I haven't always surrounded myself with encouraging people. The biggest example that comes to mind, is when I was trying to find my footing as a new mom. At first, I was not encouraging myself or finding the right resources. Negative self talk is one of the worst things we can do to ourselves and our goals.
I feel that I've found some of my footing as a parent, and I have also found resources and mom groups that help me thrive. At least once a day, I force myself to listen to audio books by authors like: Brene Brown, Oprah, Rachel Hollis and Jen Sincero. I do this while I'm feeding the baby, and I tell myself that I'm feeding my mind and soul at the same time.
What do you need to shed to make room for more happiness and growth in your life?
