Nourish November: November 23- Destress with an Adult Coloring Book

Updated: Nov 28, 2020

Did you know coloring has been shown to calm the part of the brain that controls fear? There are times during or after a long day when our brains just need to relax and focus on something easy. On these days, I find coloring to be soothing. My favorite coloring book has pictures of Paris, and I like to use colored pencils. I like to color while catching up on Netflix or enjoying the warmth of the fireplace.

When I am using my adult coloring book, it gives me something easy to focus on, and it helps my stress levels dissipate. Coloring puts the mind in a state similar to meditating, and it helps me shift focus to calm down. Coloring can also lower anxiety.

It's good to remember calming strategies as the holiday season approaches. We are much more productive when we are relaxed. It’s worth taking time to recharge and then get back to tasks, instead of doing them in a rushed and stressed way.
